Direct Database Connections

The reports listed in the Reports view are produced from one of two sources:

The Job Inventory and Job Execution Schedule reports use "internal" data from the Console. That is, all necessary information is transferred from the server to the Console and then to the report.

All other reports use a direct database connection, which provides better reporting performance. With this method, the reporting software connects directly to the adTempus database, bypassing the Console and the adTempus server.

If you are an Administrative user, and you are running the Console on the same computer as the adTempus service is running on, this will be transparent to you.

If you are a non-administrative user, or are connecting from a remote computer, additional configuration may be required. A system administration may need to make the necessary changes on the server to allow you to connect.

The changes required depend on the kind of database adTempus is using.

Allowing direct database connections for these reports requires granting the user read access to the adTempus database, which may be a security concern for you, as users will then be able to browse the database using database or reporting tools. User ID and password information stored in the database is encrypted, but users will be able to view all other configuration information.

Microsoft SQL Server or MSDE

The user running the Console must have read access to the adTempus database in SQL Server. If you need assistance making this change, please contact us.
