During installation you are prompted to select the type of database you want to use:
A Microsoft Access database
The SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) provided by Arcana Development
An existing SQL Server installation provided by you.
When you select this option, no further configuration is necessary. See the adTempus Database topic for more information on the Microsoft Access database and database backups.
If you initially choose to use the Microsoft Access database, you can convert to SQL Server at any time; see the Database Conversion topic for more information.
The Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) is a scaled-down version of SQL Server, which is provided by Arcana Development at no additional cost as part of your adTempus license.
When you select this option, you must install MSDE before you proceed with adTempus installation.
During installation, the database migration program will be run to create the adTempus database and import the initial data. If this conversion process fails for any reason, adTempus installation will still succeed, but adTempus will use the default Microsoft Access database. Once the problems reported by the database conversion have been addressed, the migration program can be run again to complete the conversion.
See the Using MSDE topic for more information.
|
Select the MSDE option only if you are using the MSDE installation provided by Arcana Development. Other applications may also install MSDE, but you must not use adTempus with those MSDE installations. See the MSDE installation topic for more information. |
If you already have SQL Server installed, adTempus can use your existing database server. adTempus can use a SQL Server instance that is installed on the same computer as adTempus, or on another computer.
See the Using SQL Server topic for more information.

If you choose to use a "remote" SQL Server instance, be sure that the server and the network connection to it are reliable. adTempus requires a continuous connection to the database. If the server or network connection is not reliable, you should install MSDE on the local computer instead of relying on the remote SQL Server. |
